Description

A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) acts as an emulator for the wind turbine. Data from the PLCs is transmitted to a control center where engineers perform statistical analysis, program the PLCs, and turbine controllers, and analyze data to predict failures before they happen. PLCs are part of the turbine tower control unit within the nacelle. They can control everything from blade pitch to hydraulics to the direction of the yaw. Students will have hands-on practice working with ladder diagrams and digital logic to troubleshoot procedures.
