Logic gates play a key role to understanding motor controls and PLC's. So the key information this week is the different logic gates and their associated truth tables. Do not spend a lot of time concentrating on the different types of gate circuitry (CMOS, TTL, etc.), although this is very good information, our focus here will be on the truth table for each of the different logic gates. Also take note of the difference between sinking and sourcing.

Reading Assignment:
Volume #4 Chapter #3 Logic Gates (All but: Logic Signal Voltage Levels, and DIP Gate Packaging)  http://www.ibiblio.org/kuphaldt/electricCircuits/Digital/DIGI_3.html
Volume #4 Chapter #7 Boolean Algebra (All but: Converting Truth Tables into Boolean Expressions) http://www.ibiblio.org/kuphaldt/electricCircuits/Digital/DIGI_7.html

When you are finished with the reading assignment be sure to view the power point. It can be found in the "Handout" section in the (upper right) of this page.

Lesson content is further explained in the videos below, be sure to check them out.

There is a worksheet to be completed in the "Coursework" page on the left.

Remote Server
Also in the "Coursework" page is a Multi-sim Lab project to design two gates from the two existing gates given that will involve using DeMorgan's Theorem. You will need to download the file and design your circuits and then upload them when you are finished.

There is another software challenge in the "Digital Challenge" under the tab "Name That Gate! One", you may do this as often as you would like and turn in your best score for a grade (2 points for every correct answer).

I have added a tutorial on the basic functions and navigation of the Multisims software in the video section of this page.
