Description
This course equips students in the Automation Controls and SCADA program at Mitchell Technical College with essential skills for system integration and troubleshooting in industrial automation environments. Students will learn to integrate programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and other automation components into efficient, cohesive systems. The course covers machine modifications and additions to enhance system functionality and adaptability. Emphasis is placed on hands-on configuration, testing, and diagnostics to ensure optimal performance. Topics include system architecture design, communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, OPC, Ethernet/IP), fault detection, and resolution strategies. Through practical labs and real-world scenarios, students will develop expertise in troubleshooting hardware and software issues, interpreting system diagnostics, and implementing corrective actions to maintain operational reliability.
